Specifications Guide for Thor Duct® 2.0

We have a suggested wording for specifiers to use for Thor Duct® 2.0 applications.

Smoke Extraction Ductwork



For Smoke Extraction ductwork, to ensure your specification is clear and includes all relevant codes we suggest your specification can be written as follows:

Single Compartment

All Thor Duct® 2.0 Smoke Extract ductwork to standard EN12101-7 and tested to EN1366-9 for single compartment.

  • Classified EN13501-4
  • Test standard EN1366-9
  • Maximum size 1900x1700mm
  • 30mm Flange duct connections
  • Insulation not required
  • Integrity (E) rating derived from the compartment rating
  • 600°C smoke conditions as per EN1366-9 fire test
  • CE marked or UKCA as appropriate
  • Where required, drains type ST-K as tested may be fitted
  • Grilles for the smoke duct type Lindab RGS as tested
  • Where single compartment ducts are connected to multi compartment ducts through a fire compartment wall, penetration by a self supporting Thor Duct Tunnel penetration detail
  • Performance E600 (ho)S 1500Pa Single


Multi Compartment

All Thor Duct® 2.0 Smoke Extract ductwork to standard EN12101-7 and tested to EN1366-8 for multi compartment.

  • Classified EN13501-4
  • Test standard EN1366-1 and EN1366-8
  • Maximum size 1250x1000mm. Larger sizes to be provided as split ducts
  • 25mm thickness pre-Insulated ductwork sections delivered from an FPC production facility
  • CE marked or UKCA as appropriate in compliance with Regulation EU305:2011
  • Integrity and insulation (EI) performance derived from the compartment requirement, giving regard to all the dependent compartments being crossed by the duct work
  • 30mm Flange duct connections
  • Access door (maximum 450x450mm) tested to EN1366-8
  • Flange collars not to exceed 25mm in thickness for co-ordination, fitted on site
  • Where required, drains type ST-K as tested may be fitted
  • Grilles for the smoke duct type Lindab RGS as tested
  • Penetration self-supporting to wall structure by way of Thor Duct® 2.0 Tunnel
  • Performance EI90 (ho, ve)S 500Pa Multi

Fire Rated Ductwork 



For Fire Rated ductwork, the suggested specification can be written as follows.

All Thor Duct® 2.0 fire rated and pressurisation ductwork will be to standard prEN15871 and tested to EN1366‑1 vertically and horizontally for type A (fire outside) and type B (fire inside).

  • Classified EN13501-3
  • Test standard EN1366-1
  • Maximum size 1250x1000mm
  • 30mm Flange duct connections
  • Access door (maximum 450x450mm) tested to EN1366-1
  • For (EI) requirements, delivered pre-insulated with 25mm thick Insulation
  • Flange collars not to exceed 25mm in thickness for co-ordination, fitted on site
  • For (E) Integrity only requirements, delivered uninsulated
  • Integrity and insulation (EI) performance derived from the compartment requirement, giving regard to all the dependent compartments being crossed by the duct work
  • Penetration self-supporting to wall structure by way of Thor Duct® 2.0 Tunnel
  • Where the fire duct crosses a protected route, the EI requirement of the protected route must be maintained as required in BS9999:2017
  • Where required, drains type ST-K as tested may be fitted
  • Grilles for the fire duct type Lindab RGS as tested
  • For ductwork sizes above 1250x100mm and below 2500x1250mm refer to the original Thor Duct system with onsite wrapping
  • Kitchen extract ductwork to be EN1366-1 duct from the back of the canopy all the way to atmosphere
  • Thor Duct® that is insulated and exposed to the elements must be protected from moisture accordingly
  • Performance EI90 (Ho, Ve i<>o)
